About the event
We will learn the full service of Kabbalat Shabbat in Moroccan Nusach. We'll start by learning how to sing Song of Songs, chapter by chapter and then will delve into Psalms. We will become familiar with the art of contrafact and learn 2-3 piyutim that can be used on Lecha Dodi.
- I. Shir Hashirim
- 1 chapter per week (8 weeks)
- II. Psalms
- 1 psalm per week (8 weeks)
- Psalms can be taught in parallel with shir hashirim.
- III. The art of contrafact: examples on Lecha Dodi (2 weeks)
- We will spend 2 weeks learning piyutim in different maqam (Arabic music mode) and then apply them onto Lecha Dodi.
At the end of course we will organize a virtual kabbalat Shabat before sundown, led by students from the course.
